At Josephine, we take trust and safety very seriously. Although cooks on
our platform are ultimately responsible for food safety, they are
personally vetted by the Josephine team and are held to high standards.
Josephine has created its own interview and vetting process that each
cook must complete before they can offer meals on the platform. Josephine
merely provides a platform for independent cooks to offer their meals.
Accordingly, food safety remains the ultimate responsibility of the cook

A Current Food Handler Card
Josephine requires that all of our cooks complete their state's Food
Handler course for food safety training. Before they are allowed to
post their first meal, each cook must provide proof of course
completion. All foodservice employees in restaurants or catering
companies serving food are required to obtain a Food Handler Card.
Ongoing Education and Support
To ensure that they have the tools and knowledge to manage their
business successfully, all Josephine Cooks have access to our
extensive Cook Knowledge Base. This live wiki is based on best
practices from 1000+ Josephine meals and our Cook Support Team's
experience in public health and the food industry.
Both members of our Cook Operations team, Sika and Emily, hold
Masters degrees in Public Health with concentrations in Nutrition,
from UC Berkeley's School of Public Health.
As part of our vetting process, all potential Josephine Cooks are
required to complete an interview with one of our Cook Support Team
members. During the interview, cooks are assessed on their cooking
experience, motivation for cooking with Josephine, and community
involvement. This helps us ensure that all of our Cooks will
provide customers with an exceptional experience.
To further increase our cooks' accountability to their customers,
Josephine collects reviews from meal attendees after each meal.
Customers assess each meal on the basis of food quality, pick up
experience, portion size, and value. As part of our review system,
customers can leave public reviews, leave personal messages to the
cook, and/or leave private messages to Josephine staff.
Our cooks love to feed and nourish people, particularly people in their
communities, and they're highly motivated to prepare food safely due to
the personal and intimate nature of the Josephine experience.
